Topic New Era of Gastroenterology and Hepatology - Responding the Call from WHO
The disease burden of gastrointestinal (GI) and liver diseases is growing faster than ever. Today, chronic viral hepatitis is the seventh leading cause of mortality globally, while liver cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the Asia-Pacific region.
In 2016, The World Health Organisation (WHO) published the first global health sector strategy on viral hepatitis. The strategy contributes to proposed targets for the reduction of chronic viral hepatitis incidence and mortality by 80% and 65% respectively by 2030. At the same time, Hong Kong’s Chief Executive’s 2017 policy address called for the Steering Committee to develop strategies to prevent and control viral hepatitis.
Well-equipped health care professionals with knowledge in Gastroenterology and Hepatology are needed more than ever to help face this challenge and are set to be in high demand by the health care system.
Join us to learn more about the new era of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and find out how our programme can prepare you to become a leader in the field.
